25 Problems

I hit the 25 problems mark on July 29, 2026. For the first part of the 100 problems challenge, I could immediately see that main issue was being consistent in solving problems every day.

In the beginning, I would try to solve a problem, keep at it until I got it, even if it took me more than an hour. To avoid spending too much time on one problem and becoming demoralized, I tried various methods like time blocking on my calendar, making to do lists etc, but I was not really able to bring significant changes.

Later, I came across the method of the Captain’s log or interstitial journaling. When applying this method, I try to write down the time and the activity I need to be doing, and this helped me keep track of how much time I spent on a question, and when it was a good time to refer to hints instead of trying again and again in the wrong direction fruitlessly.

Among the 25 problems I solved, almost all were Leetcode problems because I found them to be a good way to count the number independent problems I am solving, while still testing my problem solving skills. Over the 25 problems, I can already see an improvement where easy questions don’t take as much time now, and I am slowly able to approach Medium level questions with more confidence.

Some points I am looking forward to work on:

  • Find or build a summary sheet of important patterns and how to approach solving the problems.
  • Being able to explain my approach to the problem and the solution I come up with aloud.
  • Use the new Progress Diary section to help my consistency of solving problems every day.
